Note:These pages make extensive use of the latest XHTML and CSS Standards. They ought to look great in any standards-compliant modern browser. Unfortunately, they will probably look horrible in older browsers, like Netscape 4.x and IE 4.x. Moreover, many posts use MathML, which is, currently only supported in Mozilla. My best suggestion (and you will thank me when surfing an ever-increasing number of sites on the web which have been crafted to use the new standards) is to upgrade to the latest version of your browser. If that's not possible, consider moving to the Standards-compliant and open-source Mozilla browser.

I am being told that the page is still to appear. But apparently not before the next two weeks.

Re: Conference on Categories in Geometry and Physics

The conference - which was fantastic! - attracted an amazing amount of press attention. Urs stars in this article, and if you look in the box in the bottom-right corner you’ll see a description of his activities as a blogovima at the nn-Café.

I get a quick mention in the fourth column… or do I? They refer to a britanski matematicar, but name my doppelgänger. The Croatian public will be terribly confused.

What is a “blogovima”? I wish I could read the article :)

Re: Conference on Categories in Geometry and Physics

A blogger, I guess. But my Croatian’s no better than yours.

Re: Conference on Categories in Geometry and Physics

The doppelgaenger is Thomas Leistner, recently ex-Adelaide ;)
Imagine my excitement as a beginning graduate student that TL was at my university - then I checked the spelling…

This is great… Urs looks cool! Blogovima is such a nice word too. Too bad for Tom ;-) You guys sort of look like you’re in a rock band:

Re: Conference on Categories in Geometry and Physics

Zoran tells me that somewhere also the TV recordings they made appeared on Croatian TV. Apparently one could see there Maxim Kontsevich saying that objects in math are more interesting than objects in real life, and also me saying that the way to make math accessible to students is to connect them to real life (well, to (high energy) physics, as far as most of the math we were talking about is concerned).

So I guess it all depends on what you count as your real life and how far you trust theoretical physicist’s speculations.

Re: Conference on Categories in Geometry and Physics

Urs, didn’t you see those TV clips? They’re here and here. Unfortunately (for those whose English is better than their Croatian) you can’t hear much of what either you or Kontsevich are saying before the Croatian voiceover kicks in, though little snippets peep through.

Urs, didn’t you see those TV clips?

No, I hadn’t. How did you learn of their existence?

Will need to find a computer whose sound output isn’t broken, like mine…

Re: Conference on Categories in Geometry and Physics

I got an email from Duje Bonacci, the PR officer from the Institute Rudjer Boskovic who was at the conference. I’m surprised you didn’t get one too - it must have been an oversight.

Here’s the mail. (I’m too lazy to turn these into hyperlinks - you’ll have to cut and paste.)

Dear all,

thanx for the help with the media in Split, here is the full list of links
to the media clips about the Split conference:

I’m surprised you didn’t get one too

Hm, that worries me a little, because just yesterday I was getting the impression that there were emails from the catory theory mailing list which seemed to have circulated but never made it into my inbox. Hopefully it’s not the spam filter being overenthusiastic about its duties.

Boskovic! Anyone want to know about him?

I had visited Zoran Škoda and Igor Baković in Zagreb at Institute Rudjer Boskovic last year, but missed to inform me about Rudjer Boskovic himself. Would be intersted in what you have to say about him.
