Note:These pages make extensive use of the latest XHTML and CSS Standards. They ought to look great in any standards-compliant modern browser. Unfortunately, they will probably look horrible in older browsers, like Netscape 4.x and IE 4.x. Moreover, many posts use MathML, which is, currently only supported in Mozilla. My best suggestion (and you will thank me when surfing an ever-increasing number of sites on the web which have been crafted to use the new standards) is to upgrade to the latest version of your browser. If that's not possible, consider moving to the Standards-compliant and open-source Mozilla browser.

Groupoidfest in Riverside

Posted by John Baez

The next Groupoidfest is here in Riverside!

  • Groupoidfest, November 22-23, 2008, Mathematics Department, University of California, Riverside, organized by Aviv Censor.

I hope some of you can come! If you want to, contact Aviv as described on the conference website.

In recent years the Groupoidfest has been focused on the relation between groupoids and operator algebras. However, Aviv really wants talks on all sorts of applications of groupoids! I’ll probably talk about groupoidification. Talks on 2-groups, path groupoids and the like would also be great.

As has been the tradition, the conference budget of $0 will be evenly split among all participants.

I’d love to come, but I think I’ll have to wait until I determine a few other things, like whether or not I even have a job.

Re: Groupoidfest in Riverside

That’s not the right way to talk if you want a job. You should complain about how many offers you’re getting and how hard it is decide among them.

Re: Groupoidfest in Riverside

Are seriously interested (but otherwise hopelessly clueless) spectators welcome? :)

Re: Groupoidfest in Riverside

I’m not going to put out a worldwide welcome mat for clueless spectators — the dangers are all too obvious! But if the bouncer threatens to throw you out, just brandish a copy of your paper with Urs.
