New York City Category Seminar
Posted by John Baez
Manhattan has everything. Now it even has a category theory seminar:
- New York City Category Seminar, starting Spring 2009, weekly, Monday evenings 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Room 4421, The Graduate Center, CUNY, 365 Fifth Avenue (at 34th street, diagonally across from the Empire State Building). Organized by Noson Yanofsky.
If you work on categories or -categories and you happen to pass through Manhattan, consider trying to give a talk at this new seminar. As Yanofsky writes:
We anticipate talks in applied and pure category theory. We also encourage students to make presentations on their work.
New York City is central enough that someone prominent is always passing through.
You may recall Noson Yanofsky from his work on coherence, homotopy and 2-theories. In fact my student Alex Hoffnung is in New York now, talking to Khovanov and Lauda about categorification, talking to Gurski about monoidal bicategories… and talking to Noson Yanofsky about categories and 2-categories.
