Note:These pages make extensive use of the latest XHTML and CSS Standards. They ought to look great in any standards-compliant modern browser. Unfortunately, they will probably look horrible in older browsers, like Netscape 4.x and IE 4.x. Moreover, many posts use MathML, which is, currently only supported in Mozilla. My best suggestion (and you will thank me when surfing an ever-increasing number of sites on the web which have been crafted to use the new standards) is to upgrade to the latest version of your browser. If that's not possible, consider moving to the Standards-compliant and open-source Mozilla browser.

Homotopical Algebraic Geometry in Seville

Posted by John Baez

This sounds like a really cool way to learn some high-powered applications of category theory:

  • School on Homotopy Theory and Algebraic Geometry, September 7th-13th 2009, Mathematical Research Institute of the University of Sevilla, Spain. Organized by Luis Narváez Macarro, Beatriz Rodríguez González and Michel Vaquié.

There will be three courses at this conference:

  • Derived Algebraic Geometry: Bertrand Toen (Toulouse), Michel Vaquié (Toulouse) and Gabriele Vezzossi (Bologna).
  • Model Categories and Derivators: Bernhard Keller (Paris 7) and Georges Maltsiniotis (Paris 7).
  • Cartan–Eilenberg Categories and Descent Categories: Francisco Guillén Santos (Barcelona), Vicente Navarro Aznar (Barcelona) and Beatriz Rodríguez Gonz´lez (Madrid).

The deadline for on-line registration is 15th July 2009.

The organizers can provide some financial support to cover registration fees, accommodation expenses and/or living expenses. Priority is given to PhD students and young postdocs. Please note that no support will be available for travel expenses.

There is a registration fee of 80 euro payable on cash upon arrival. To apply for financial support the registration deadline is June 30th, 2009. Applicants will be informed by the organizing committee about financial support no later than July 15th, 2009.

Re: Homotopical Algebraic Geometry in Seville

Who is it by? Lurie, or Ben-Zvi? Lurie has some famous huge papers on derived algebraic geometry, on the arXiv.

Re: Homotopical Algebraic Geometry in Seville

That’s the original version of Jacob’s thesis, I think. It looks like it’s still hiding on his website here.

Re: Homotopical Algebraic Geometry in Seville

Thanks! It looks better readable for someone just curious than his arxiv articles. I wonder if that formalism is used in arithmetic algebraic geometry too and if there is some connection to “F_1-yoga”.
